BlackBerry Limited recently announced several more changes to its management team. Kristian Tear and Frank Boulben, the company’s COO and Chief Marketing Officer, respectively, have left. BlackBerry has also replaced its CFO by naming James Yersh to the position. Yersh previously served as SVP and Controller of the company. These changes come on the heels of John Chen being appointed Chairman and Interim CEO earlier last month as part of an ongoing reorganization.

The FDA has given its nod of approval to Gilead Sciences‘ new hepatitis C drug, Sovaldi. Though the hepatitis C medication market is increasingly saturated, analysts expect strong sales of Sovaldi due to its less-intensive treatment regimen. The drug is administered in pill form and doesn’t require antiviral injections; it also shortens the time frame patients must undergo treatment. In addition, Sovaldi showed a high success rate (about 90%) in clinical trials.

Demand for collaborative software, analytics tools, and enterprise applications will drive worldwide software spending growth over the next several years, according to IDC. The industry is expected to post a compound annual growth rate near 6 percent between 2012 and 2017. Tools that help organizations analyze and share data and content show the most potential, with spending on collaborative; structured data management; and data access, analysis, and delivery applications to grow 8 percent.
