Sprint Nextel, the third-largest US wireless carrier, has agreed to enter into negotiations with DISH Network about DISH’s $25.5 billion bid for the wireless carrier. Discussions with DISH could put a damper on a previously announced acquisition of 70% of Sprint Nextel by SOFTBANK – worth some $20.1 billion. That deal was expected to occur in mid-2013. While Sprint has the right to terminate SOFTBANK’s takeover for a superior offer, its board hasn’t made a decision on DISH’s bid and continues to back SOFTBANK’s proposal.

Computer makers see promise in China’s untapped rural markets to help counter slowing PC sales in North America. China led the world in PC unit sales in 2012, reaching 69 million units, according to a report from IHS iSuppli. Many potential first-time PC buyers live in rural areas, where the Chinese government plans to spend trillions during the next decade to build infrastructure.
